Hosting of ITU-T SG17 Q.8/Q.9 Meeting

Hosted by Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and co-organized by Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA, President Won-Sik Kim) and Korea ITU Committee, ITU-T SG17 Q.8(Telebiometrics)/Q.9(Secure Communication Services) meeting was held at Inha University Convention Center from 2007 July 23 to 25 with over 30 information security experts attending from 4 countries.

Korea has played a leading role in the development of the draft recommendations during ITU-T study period '05~08, and hosting of this meeting laid the foundation for ITU-T to adopt the Korean drafted recommendations as international standard.

The consented recommendations reached at this meeting, which will be proposed at the next SG17 meeting (2007.09), are as follows; ① User authentication mechanisms for home network service (X.homesec-3), ② Guideline on secure password-based authentication protocol with key exchange (X.sap-1), ③ Security architecture for message security in mobile web services (X.websec-3).

Korea also successfully reflected new modifications to the existing draft recommendations in the areas of mobile RFID and P2P security, as well as reflecting modifications in protecting method and process for biometric data security (X.ttp-1, 2) and key generating method using biometric data (X.tdk) in the Telebiometrics field.
