Evaluation of LTE-Advanced and WiBro Evolution Completed

From June 9th to the 16th, the 8th ITU-R WP5D Meeting attended by 250 participants from about 50 nations and organizations was held in Da Nang, Vietnam. One of the most important issues discussed at this meeting was to complete evaluation on whether two candidate technologies meet the minimum performance requirements for IMT-Advanced technology adopted by ITU-R. In the 6th WP5D Meeting held in October last year, LTE-Advanced by 3GPP and 802.16m by IEEE were proposed as official candidate technologies for IMT-Advanced. In this meeting, among 14 independent evaluation groups registered within ITU-R, 11 evaluation groups including Korea's TTA PG707 submitted 13 evaluation reports for the candidate technologies, which led to official completion of evaluation of candidate technologies by ITU-R. Based on the review of the evaluation reports, both technologies turned out to meet IMT-Advanced requirements and completed evaluation for ITU-R recommendations and are expected to be adopted as IMT-Advanced technologies through final agreement and the decision-making process for standardization in the subsequent meeting. The next WP5D meeting will be held this coming October in Chengdu, China.
