ITU Workshop on Bridging the Standardization Gap
ITU has been dedicating itself to bridge the standardization gap between advanced and developing nations. As a part of this effort, ITU held a workshop titled ‘Workshop on Bridging the Standardization Gap’ in Fiji from the 16th to the 17th of September 2009.  Recognizing the importance of this case, Korea Communications Commission (KCC) and TTA commenced on a joint project between ITU-KCC-TTA in 2008 in order to raise designated special funds for alleviation of standardization gap and to develop a model measuring the standardization gap. At this workshop, the measuring model which is jointly developed by TTA and Sunchon University was presented and positive comments on this model were received from the ITU member countries. Through additional review of this model, ‘Standardization Capability Index’ will be published under the name of ITU. Furthermore, the standardization consultancy program pursued by TTA to enhance standardization capabilities of developing nations was presented at the workshop. The ITU member countries expressed compliments and requested continuation of this program together with expansion of the beneficiary countries. Some countries (Uganda and Sierra Leone, etc.) directly requested to receive the consultancy program. In the future, TTA, together with ITU, will jointly promote standardization capability measuring and standardization consultancy program in developing nations throughout the world.
