TTA proposes candidate Radio Interface Technologies of IMT-Advanced to ITU
At the 6th meeting of ITU-R WP5D held in Dresden, Germany, 14-21 October 2009. Telecommunication Technology Association (TTA) proposed ‘IEEE 802.16m’ and ‘LTE Release10 & Beyond (LTE-Advanced)’ as candidate technologies of IMT-Advanced. ‘IEEE 802.16m’ was proposed by IEEE, TTA and Japan and this was endorsed and supported by many companies from Korea, the USA and Japan with IEEE playing the central role. And ‘LTE-Advanced’ was proposed by 6 SDO OP of 3GPP including TTA, many companies of 3GPP and the Japanese government, and this was endorsed and supported by Korea and many companies. ITU is planning to evaluate the two candidate technologies, come up with draft recommendations in Q1 of 2011, and finally approve them as ITU recommendations by 2011. Both technologies are expected to be adopted as ITU recommendations.
※ 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) established such 3G mobile phone standards as WCDMA and HSDPA, and is now developing LTE-Advanced standard.
※ IEEE’s 802.16e Task Group completed establishment of 3G Mobile-WiMAX (WiBroTM) standard, and currently 802.16m Task Group is developing 4G IEEE 802.16m standard.
