In October, TTA obtained a qualification as a certified test center for CTIA OTAP and  commenced the CTIA OTAP testing service. CTIA OTAP test is to measure radioactivity in radio waves transmitted between mobile phones. In the past, test was conducted using a phantom with electrical characteristics the same as those of human head in order to reflect the actual mobile phone user environment. However, in the new v3.1 test specifications, head and hand phantom condition was added in order to reflect the impact of hand holding a mobile phone in addition to human head under the condition of using a mobile phone. In addition, the test also measures reception sensitivity performance for GPS function that is mounted as a default function in smartphones. The test is expected to help users to benefit from more accurate position information service. As smartphone environment increases rapidly as of late, the importance of data and positioning service is highlighted. Accordingly, most overseas mobile network operators require OTAP test as a mandatory test item for mobile phones and mobile devices. As TTA has been approved as a certified CTIA test center for the CTIA OTAP test fields, it will not only contribute significantly to increasing export by Korea's smartphone manufacturers, but also increase the international competitiveness of smartphone exporters.
