TTA Standards ZigBee device profile established
At the 48th Technical Assembly held in June 29th, TTA (Secretary General Kim Hong-Koo) announced the establishment of 3 TTA Standards, ‘ZigBee Application Support (APS) sub-layer,’ ‘ZigBee-based hazard detection profile (gas, door lock, etc.),’ and ‘ZigBee HVAC interface,’ related to the ZigBee Device Profile capable of environmental control and hazard detection by means of ZigBee, the low-power and low-speed wireless communication standard for automated management of homes, buildings and plants.

ZigBee Alliance had established the standard profiles for the security and application service hierarchy based on IEEE802.15.4 network in December 2004 and has been providing HCL (Home Control Lighting) profile of the ZigBee application profile to homes, buildings and plants.

The newly establish TTA Standards are the HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) interface profile that uses the technology related to the architecture supporting the interface between the Network and the Application layer to comfortably manage the room temperature, humidity, pollution, and other various profiles for safety and hazard detection such as the door lock safety and gas detection.

These application services, which are basic necessities for the management of homes, plants, and buildings, are closely related to the standard specifications established by the CBA (Commercial Building Automation), HA (Home Automation), and Telecom Application task group within the application framework group of ZigBee Alliance.

Drawing on the momentum provided by the establishment of the domestic standard for ZigBee application services, the TTA WPAN Project Group (chairman: Mr. Huh Jae-Doo of ETRI) is planning to continue its engagement in standardization activities in cooperation with the Korean ZigBee forum, the home network forum, and other related forums to reflect the various ubiquitous application service, access frequency, and profile applications requested by domestic industries to the profiles of ZigBee Alliance.
