| Certification of 20-pin battery charger with integrated connector for mobile phone | |

TTA certified 20-pin battery charger for mobile phones for the first time on June 18th for Pantech's integrated 20-pin battery charger (model name: TC-820) after an evaluation by the certification evaluation committee. This certification of 20-pin integrated battery charger is the first ever to be issued since the adoption of the standards on November 8, 2007. Since 2006, advancement in the mobile technology enabled production of slimmer and smaller devices, and the existing 24-pin I/O connection interface had structural limitation. The new 20-pin battery charger reduced the size from a 24-pin (single row) to a 20-pin (two row), where the actual connector size decreased substantially (width: 16.3mm → 11.1mm, thickness: 3mm → 2.6mm). Also, the new battery charger integrated various earphone jacks which were different among manufacturers. The new integrated interface presents a new standard for a consolidated interface where charger, earphone interface and TV input plug are combined as one. The TTA predicts that more integrated 20-pin mobile phone will be released by manufacturers following the release of the recently certified Pantech 20-pin battery charger. TTA has also made a request to mobile phone manufacturers to include a '24-pin to 20-pin' connector (see below) when selling the phone to ensure that users who own 24-pin battery chargers may use it without having to purchase a new charger.
