ITU-T SG17 starts researches on RFID security
The rapporteur meeting of ITU-T SG17 WP2, responsible for global standardization related to the information security, was held on 11~15 September 2006 in Ottawa, Canada. More than 40 standardization experts attended the meeting.

An important issue of this meeting was the agreement to standardize RFID security within ITU-T for the first time. For the initial stage of RFID security, they agreed to develop 2 draft standards, "Privacy protection framework for networked RFID services (X.rfidsec-1)" and "Privacy Guidelines for RFID (X.rfpg)". The meeting agreed that Korea will develop these two draft standards and it created a great opportunity for Korea to reflect the domestic RFID security technologies to international standards.

ITU-T SG17, as a "Lead Study Group on Telecommunication Security" within ITU-T, has been making intensive efforts to develop international standards related to information security. Korea is planning to capitalize on the result of this meeting to continuously play a leading role in international standardization of not only RFID security, but also IT security. The next ITU-T SG17 international standardization meeting will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on 6~15 December 2006.
