Total of 6 working groups (WG) (WG1: structure and requirements, WG2: QoS and performance, WG3: service security and protection of contents, WG4: IPTV network control, WG5: interoperability with end systems, and WG6: middleware/application/contents platform) were organized under the IPTV Focus Group, and appointment of the chairperson and definition of work scope was decided for each working group during this meeting.

From this meeting, Mr. Lee Jae-Sup of ETRI was named as the vice-chairman of the IPTV FG. Additionally, Prof. Choi Joon-Gyun of ICU and Dr. Kim Dae-Geon of KT was selected as the chairman for WG1 and WG2 respectively, and Dr. Glen A. Adams of Samsung Electronics was selected as the co-chairman of WG3.

Accordingly, plans to actively reflect major core technology and requirements of domestic industries such as KT, LG, and Samsung to international standards in conjunction with the domestic standardization activities by the IPTV Project Group (PG) at TTA are in place to capitalize on this opportunity.

IPTV FG plans to complete the basic standardization activities necessary for global standardization of IPTV within a year by holding a total of 5 meetings by the end of July 2007, and the 2nd IPTV FG meeting will be held at the Lotte Hotel in Busan from Oct. 16th to 20th, 2006.

Specific standardization activities are expected at the 2nd IPTV FG meeting in Busan and this will not only become the arena to reflect domestic technology to international standard, but also revitalize domestic IPTV market, which has been slow due to legal and system issues.
